Best of 2014 (According to Yours Truly)

I fell way short of my 2014 reading goal of 75 books. Even counting manuscripts I read for critique, I only got to 56 books. I’m hoping to read 100 next year – I did that in 2009 and it was so good for me creatively.

But here are my favorites of 2014:

Favorite book of 2014: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Favorite fantasy: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Favorite contemporary: What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

Favorite paranormal/Gothic horror: Between the Spark and the Burn by April Tucholke

Favorite debuts: Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley and Sekret by Lindsay Smith

Favorite series I finished: Rae Carson’s Girl of Fire & Thorns trilogy (I read the whole thing this summer)

Favorite middle-grades: Sisters by Raina Telgemeier and Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes

Favorite sexy book (new adult): Last Will & Testament by Dahlia Adler

Favorite thought-provoking book: Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty by Christine Heppermann

Favorite nonfiction: Still Writing by Dani Shapiro

Favorite novella: Night of Cake & Puppets by Laini Taylor

Other Highly Recommended Reads:

Favorite blog: Stacked

Favorite author blogs (ok, Tumblrs): Courtney Summers and Lauren DeStefano

Favorite bookish event: NYC Teen Author Fest

Favorite social media: Twitter

Favorite 2015 books I’ve already read: The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma (out March 24), The Storyspinner by Becky Wallace (out March 3), The Weight of Feathers by Anne-Marie McLemore (out fall 2015), Hold Me Like a Breath by Tiffany Schmidt (out May 19)

Most Anticipated 2015 Reads: All the Rage by Courtney Summers, The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkowski, and The Devil You Know by Trish Doller

Most Anticipated 2015 Debut: None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio

What were your favorites of 2014? What are you most excited to read in 2015? Stay tuned for my super-dorky 2014 reading stats breakdown tomorrow!
